Instagram and The Dream
Instagram is a fabulous platform to showcase your business. However, time and time again, I see salons using Instagram as a tool to primarily showcase the latest hairstyles (or skin) against backgrounds within the salon. Whilst Instagram is the best app to showcase your portfolio, how the end viewer consumes the information is different to how the salon owner sees it.
If you look at the biggest brands in the world who showcase products on Instagram, you will find the images are designed to evoke an emotion or desire. The images portray how much better life is by coming on-board with the brand. This is what is known as THE DREAM. The images don’t necessarily focus on the product. Whilst the product may be placed strategically within the image, the image shows you how much better your life will be if the brand becomes part of your life.
It’s the same for service-based businesses. Whilst you may be selling your service to colour hair or rejuvenate skin, the images on your Instagram should sell how much better life is after experiencing your service. Unless you are out and about with your clients each day with a high-resolution camera taking snaps of their fabulous lives, accumulating images of THE DREAM can be incredibly difficult for small businesses to attain.
This is where Instagram Influencers come in. Influencers have the power to create THE DREAM service based businesses require to connect with potential clients. Influencers have the knack for creating posed shots that evoke desire.
Chances are, some of your existing clients are already Instagram Influencers and will willingly allow you to repost images from their Instagram account to yours. Create a list of your clients and go through each of their Instagram accounts. Some of your clients will have more followers than others. These are generally individuals who focus and take pride in uploading quality images to their account. Find images of theirs that you feel showcase your work beautifully in their natural happy state. You will find most clients only post photos of themselves they are happy with and will be willing for you to re-share. This is your first step to accumulating images that represent the energy you want potential clients to desire and consider your business as their next beauty need.
